Food assistance is reaching tens of thousands of people affected by conflict and El Niño-related impacts across the northern regions. However, humanitarian needs continue to outpace the ongoing response, making additional resources and sustained access essential. In the Tigray region, humanitarian partners report several incidents of drone strikes impacting civilians and essential infrastructure. This includes a strike that hit a local NGO’s humanitarian warehouse on Wednesday. The extent of the damage and the loss of humanitarian supplies are still being assessed. Multiple drone strikes were also reported between 15 and 21 October in the eastern Amhara region, according to partners. Reports indicate that the strikes killed at least 15 civilians and injured several others, including children. Schools were also damaged. Data will be shared with health authorities, with the goal of bringing this treatment to patients as soon as possible. Typically diagnosed before the age of 40, IgAN affects at least 25 adults per million worldwide each year.8,9 IgAN, also known as Berger’s disease, is a chronic and progressive autoimmune disease that leads to end-stage kidney disease in up to 50% of patients within 20 years of diagnosis.5,10 It is the most common form of primary glomerulonephritis (inflammation of the tiny filters, glomeruli, in the kidneys) and is a major cause of chronic kidney disease as well as kidney failure.8 About sefaxersen Investigational sefaxersen is the first highly specific liver-directed antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) inhibitor of factor B production being evaluated in IgA nephropathy (IgAN).2 Serum complement factor B levels are elevated in people with IgAN. When we reduce these levels, it in turn reduces the level of protein in urine, which is a key indicator of improved kidney function.11,12 Sefaxersen is designed to provide sustained control of the alternative complement pathway, an important pathway in IgAN, enabling once-monthly subcutaneous dosing and is intended for self-administration in people with IgAN.3 In phase I and II trials, sefaxersen was shown to be generally well tolerated in healthy volunteers and people with IgAN who were at high risk of progression, and reduced proteinuria and plasma complement factor B.2,13 Roche licensed sefaxersen from Ionis Pharmaceuticals for the treatment of complement mediated diseases. About the IMAgINATION study IMAgINATION [NCT05797610] is a phase III, multicentre, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of subcutaneous sefaxersen, an investigational antisense inhibitor of complement factor B, in patients with primary IgA nephropathy at high risk of progression.1,14 The study enrolled 459 people, who are randomised 1:1 to receive sefaxersen or placebo for 105 weeks.1,14 Participants may switch to open-label treatment after week 105 at the investigator's discretion or after the common-close timepoint, whichever occurs first.1,14 The primary endpoint of the study is the change from baseline in the urine protein-to-creatinine ratio at 37 weeks.1,14 About primary immunoglobulin A nephropathy (IgAN) IgAN, also known as Berger’s disease, is a serious, chronic and progressive autoimmune kidney disease affecting at least 25 adults per million worldwide each year and is typically diagnosed before the age of 40 years.8-10 In IgAN, immune complexes deposit in the kidneys, which activates the complement system’s alternative pathway, leading to inflammation and subsequent kidney damage.15 It is the most common form of primary glomerulonephritis (inflammation of kidney glomeruli) and remains a leading cause of kidney failure, with up to 50% of patients experiencing end-stage kidney disease within 20 years of diagnosis.5,8 Many current therapies aim to reduce protein levels in the urine and control blood pressure to slow progression of the disease.16 Updated KDIGO 2025 guidelines* highlight the need to address both the underlying immune-mediated causes of IgAN and the downstream consequences of kidney damage.4 While new therapies have expanded treatment options, important unmet needs remain, including improved long-term preservation of kidney function and more targeted approaches that address key drivers of disease progression.4,16 About Roche in Immunology For over two decades, Roche has advanced immune system research, creating groundbreaking targeted treatments that have transformed care for people with blood disorders, neurological conditions and autoimmune diseases. With a development pipeline exploring more than 20 medical approaches, we are targeting widespread, complex conditions like chronic lung disease (COPD) and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), alongside lupus and autoimmune kidney diseases. New site superintendent Stephanie Kwiatkowski, who stepped into the role in June, explains why Texas Parks and Wildlife is targeting late fall 2026 to open the gates, and why the agency classified ABK as a state natural area rather than a state park. The conversation is a return visit for the show, which previously hosted founding superintendent James Rice while the land was still in survey and planning. Kwiatkowski walks listeners through several specific threads: The legal and operational distinction between a state park and a state natural area under the Texas Admin Code, with comparisons to Government Canyon, Lost Maples, Inks Lake, and McKinney Falls. The 28 miles of multi-use trail open to hikers, mountain bikers, joggers, and strollers. Operational lessons from the July 2026 flooding event, which washed out landscaping, trails, and campsites before any public visitation. Kwiatkowski frames the park-versus-natural-area question as a spectrum between recreation and conservation, and she is candid about the stakes of protecting the ABK viewshed. Standing in a UTV above the canyons during her first weeks on site, she described the moment this way: "The site owns both sides of those canyons. And so that view, that viewshed, it is safeguarded for, um, forever." She also credits the volunteer corps assembled by James Rice, a former biologist, calling the relationships "integral to our success as a site." The episode digs into the ecological specifics that justify ABK's protective designation: bigtooth maples that rival those at Lost Maples State Natural Area, the riparian corridors along Red Bluff Creek and Pipe Creek, and the transition zones between ash juniper woodlands and creek bottoms. Kwiatkowski traces her own path from a childhood of camping in a pop-up trailer, through an environmental science degree with a minor in environmental sociology, GIS and consulting work, a formative seasonal job with the City of New Braunfels parks, the park operations trainee role at the Lost Pines Complex (Bastrop and Buescher State Parks), and an assistant superintendent stint at Pedernales Falls State Park before her June promotion. Construction crews, subcontractors, and a six-person site team are now preparing cabins, screened shelters, tent sites, backcountry camping, and hike-and-bike infrastructure for public access. About The Building Texas Show The Building Texas Show, hosted by Justin McKenzie, spotlights the people, places, and projects shaping Texas communities, from Hill Country conservation to small-business entrepreneurship. New episodes publish weekly across YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, with sponsorship support from Chisos Boots. The initiative is detailed in a newly published paper titled "Toward a Global Digital Credential Mobility Ecosystem for Migrating Health Professionals." As healthcare systems worldwide face persistent workforce shortages, internationally educated health professionals often encounter lengthy, duplicative, and inconsistent credential recognition processes that can delay entry into practice. The paper proposes a new approach centered on a Global Competency Record (GCR). This portable digital record could securely bring together verified evidence of a professional's education, training, work experience, certifications, and demonstrated competencies throughout their career. "Healthcare has become increasingly global, but the systems used to recognize qualifications across borders have not kept pace," said Peter Preziosi, PhD, RN, CAE, FAAN, President and CEO of TruMerit and lead author of the paper. "Qualified professionals can spend months or even years navigating fragmented processes that require the same information to be verified repeatedly. We have an opportunity to modernize credential mobility around trusted digital information, verified competencies, and interoperability while preserving regulatory authority and protecting the public." "Any one organization or sector cannot solve the challenges facing workforce mobility," said Charmaine Hack, Vice President, Partnerships, Enrollment & External Relations of Centennial College, Vice President of the GDN Network Board, and co-author of the paper. "Creating a trusted ecosystem for credential mobility will require collaboration across education, workforce, regulatory, and technology communities." "Trusted digital credentials have enormous potential to support individuals as they move across borders for education and work," said Joanne Duklas, Executive Director of the GDN Network and co-author of the paper. "This initiative explores how we can better connect education, credentials, and demonstrated competencies in ways that work for individuals, regulators, and employers." Unlike a global license or replacement for national regulatory systems, the proposed GCR would provide regulators, employers, and other authorized stakeholders with access to trusted, verified information that can be evaluated against local requirements and standards. For health professionals, it offers a more portable way to demonstrate qualifications. For regulators and employers, it could provide more transparent and reliable information for decision-making. While the initial application focuses on healthcare, the long-term vision is for the GCR to serve as a model that could be adapted for other sectors facing similar credential mobility challenges. As healthcare systems around the world grapple with workforce shortages, the opportunity extends beyond improving credential verification. It is about creating a future where qualified health professionals can move more efficiently between jurisdictions, while regulators and employers have access to trusted information on which to base decisions. The Global Competency Record is intended as a blueprint for a more connected, transparent, and responsive approach to workforce mobility. The Scotland-wide initiative aims to identify and map existing memorial spaces across all 32 Scottish local authority areas, creating an accessible resource for families affected by pregnancy and baby loss while highlighting communities where additional places of remembrance may be needed. For many bereaved families, having somewhere peaceful to visit, reflect and honour their baby can provide comfort and a lasting sense of connection. Yet information about existing memorial spaces is not always readily available, leaving some families unaware of the places of remembrance within their own communities. Led by MISS and supported by research from Sands, the project aims to bring this information together in one national resource, helping families discover places of remembrance while identifying potential gaps in provision. The mapping exercise will explore a wide range of memorial spaces and remembrance features, including dedicated gardens, benches, memorial stones, plaques, Trees of Tranquillity and 'Letters to Heaven' post boxes, recognising the many ways families choose to remember their babies. Importantly, the project will also highlight areas where dedicated memorial spaces are limited or unavailable, helping to inform future conversations with local authorities, healthcare providers and communities about developing additional places of remembrance. Every Baby Matters, Every Loss Deserves Recognition Leona Scott, Media Coordinator at MISS, said: “Losing a baby is something no family should have to face without compassion, understanding and support. While everyone experiences grief differently, having a special place to remember can mean so much to families whose babies are no longer with them. “Across Scotland, there are beautiful gardens, memorials and quiet spaces dedicated to remembering babies, but not everyone knows where to find them. We want to change that. “This project is about more than creating a map. It's about recognising that every baby matters, every loss deserves acknowledgement, and every family should have the opportunity to remember in a way that feels right for them. “We're asking people across Scotland to help us build this resource. Whether you know of a memorial garden in your town, a dedicated remembrance bench or a special space created by your local community, we'd love to hear about it. Even the smallest piece of information could help another family find somewhere meaningful to remember their baby.” Building on Existing Remembrance Spaces The initiative builds upon MISS's existing remembrance work, including the Forget Me Not Memorial Garden at Hazlehead Crematorium in Aberdeen, created in partnership with Aberdeen SANDS and Aberdeen City Council, which provides a peaceful and dedicated space for families to reflect, remember and honour their babies. While MISS continues its work supporting individual memorial spaces, this national project represents a wider commitment to understanding remembrance provision across Scotland. By identifying existing spaces and areas where further provision may be needed, the charity hopes to encourage greater awareness, collaboration and opportunities for communities to develop meaningful places of remembrance. The project is currently in development, and MISS is inviting members of the public, local authorities, NHS boards, healthcare professionals, charities and community organisations to contribute information. How the Public Can Help MISS is appealing to people across Scotland to share details of existing memorial gardens and dedicated remembrance spaces within their communities. Whether it is a well-established memorial garden, a remembrance bench, a dedicated memorial feature or a smaller community space, every contribution could help build a clearer picture of the places available to bereaved families. Anyone with information is encouraged to email info@miss-support.org.uk, including the name and location of the memorial space and any additional details that may be helpful. Through this nationwide initiative, MISS hopes to create a lasting resource that will help families find places of comfort, reflection and remembrance, wherever they live in Scotland. ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— FinBursa launches the Intelligent Front Office for private markets, powered by Agentic AI 2026-10-22 · EIN Presswire · AI, Real estate, Investing & markets, Nonprofits, Software & IT https://www.einpresswire.com/article/951457197/finbursa-launches-the-intelligent-front-office-for-private-markets-powered-by-agentic-ai Logo: FinBursa Technologies Ltd. ("Unicycive" or the "Company") (Nasdaq: UNCY), a clinical-stage biotechnology company developing therapies for patients with kidney disease, today announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has accepted the resubmission of its New Drug Application (NDA) for oxylanthanum carbonate (OLC), the Company's investigational oral phosphate binder for the treatment of hyperphosphatemia in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) on dialysis. The NDA was resubmitted following a Complete Response Letter (CRL) received in June 2026. The FDA has deemed the OLC resubmission a Class II with a six-month review period from the resubmission date, and set a Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) target action date of March 25, 2027. Unicycive Therapeutics, Inc. is a B2i Digital Featured Company. See the company's in-depth profile at: https://b2idigital.com/unicycive-therapeutics. "We are pleased that the FDA has accepted the resubmission of our NDA for OLC and assigned a PDUFA date," said Shalabh Gupta, M.D., Chief Executive Officer of Unicycive. "This resubmission includes CMC data from a new third-party drug product manufacturing vendor. The new vendor's facility was last inspected by the FDA in March 2024 and received 'No Action Indicated' status. We hope to continue working with the FDA toward potential approval of this important medication to patients with CKD on dialysis who need additional treatment options for managing hyperphosphatemia." The Company does not know whether the FDA will decide to conduct a pre-approval inspection of the new third-party DP vendor. Additionally, if the original third-party manufacturing vendor is inspected in the near term and finds that its facility complies with current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP), the Company plans to seek FDA alignment on a shorter approval timeline. The Company resubmitted the NDA following the second CRL, which cited deficiencies previously identified at the original third-party manufacturer of the drug product, which the FDA had not been able to re-inspect during the prior submission review. The timing and outcome of any FDA inspection of the original third-party vendor will be determined solely by the FDA. The NDA is supported by data from three clinical studies (a Phase 1 study in healthy volunteers, a bioequivalence study in healthy volunteers, and a tolerability study of OLC in CKD patients on dialysis), multiple preclinical studies, as well as CMC data. The FDA did not raise any concerns regarding OLC's preclinical or clinical data, including safety data, included in the original NDA submission. About Oxylanthanum Carbonate OLC is an investigational oral phosphate binder that leverages proprietary nanoparticle technology to deliver high phosphate binding potency, reducing the number and size of pills that patients must take to treat hyperphosphatemia in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) on dialysis. Its potential best-in-class profile may have meaningful patient adherence benefits over currently available treatment options as it requires a lower pill burden. Unicycive is seeking FDA approval of OLC via the 505(b)(2) regulatory pathway. OLC is protected by a strong global patent portfolio including issued patents on composition of matter with exclusivity until 2031, and with the potential for patent term extension until 2035. About Hyperphosphatemia Hyperphosphatemia is a serious medical condition that occurs in nearly all patients with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). Annually there are over 450,000 individuals in the U.S. that require medication to control their phosphate levels.[1] Uncontrolled hyperphosphatemia is strongly associated with increased death and hospitalization for CKD patients on dialysis. Treatment of hyperphosphatemia is aimed at lowering serum phosphate levels via two means: (1) restricting dietary phosphorus intake; and (2) using, on a daily basis, and with each meal, oral phosphate binding drugs that facilitate fecal elimination of dietary phosphate rather than its absorption from the gastrointestinal tract into the bloodstream. Since its founding in 2018 by CEO Frederick West, The Online Food Pantry Mobile Food Market has helped more than 80,000 people access food assistance by recovering surplus food from local partners and delivering it to residents across six metro Atlanta counties. When the organization's delivery van, a critical part of its operation, was destroyed by fire earlier this year, the Delta Air Lines Clayton County Donor Advised Fund at the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta provided a $25,000 grant to help purchase a replacement vehicle and restore delivery services. “Delta’s generous donation came at a critical moment for The Online Food Pantry," said West. "Their support didn't just help us replace a vehicle — it helped us restore hope, maintain our ability to serve our community, and continue making sure that food reaches those who need it most.” During a recent food delivery with West, it became clear that the new van also needed refrigeration to safely transport fresh produce, meat and other perishable items. To help meet that need, an additional $35,000 grant was awarded to install a refrigeration system and support operating expenses. “Since the Delta Air Lines Clayton County Charitable Fund was established last year, we've worked closely with Delta to help direct resources to organizations making a real difference in Clayton County,” said Daniel Lewis, philanthropic advisor at the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta. “This is a great example of that partnership in action.” Delta and The Delta Air Lines Foundation support 22 food banks in cities and regions across the globe to help fight hunger and food insecurity all year long, investing more than $1.8 million through corporate funding and grants in 2026 alone. About The Online Food Pantry Mobile Food Market   The Online Food Pantry is a 501c3 nonprofit, established in early 2018 to eradicate food waste and combat hunger in communities with an online ordering platform and free home delivery service for anyone experiencing food insecurity. About the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta Since 1951, the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta has helped generations of Atlantans turn their love for the region into lasting change. The organization stewards more than $1.8 billion in assets and deploys more than $235 million annually to thousands of nonprofit partners; helps organizations across Atlanta meet immediate needs, sustain essential programs and respond to emerging challenges; and helps individuals, families, businesses and their advisors turn charitable goals into lasting impact through tax-smart giving options, personal guidance and local expertise. ———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— Get every merge request in front of the right reviewer, faster 2026-10-15 · GitLab · SaaS, Nonprofits, Jobs & workplace https://about.gitlab.com/blog/recommend-reviewers-flow/ The code is written. Now who reviews it? The volume of code has never been greater, but delivery hasn’t kept pace. At Meta, code changes on internal platforms grew 220% year over year, while changes that reached users as new features grew only 36% (Reuters, August 2026). Every one of those changes has to clear review before it reaches users. Automated review absorbs much of that load. Code Review Flow in GitLab Duo Agent Platform reviews merge requests as they arrive, follows custom review instructions you define per project, and costs a flat 0.25 GitLab Credits per review ($0.25 at list price). If a manual review takes about 15 minutes of a senior engineer’s time, that’s roughly $25 per review, so automated review cuts per-review cost by 99% (GitLab). Automated review doesn’t take people out of the loop. Approval rules, CODEOWNERS, and compliance policies still require a person to sign off on many changes. For those merge requests, the first slowdown is often finding the right reviewer, and it happens before anyone reads a line. The right reviewer needs expertise in the code being changed, room in their queue, and availability in a time zone where they can respond quickly. When authors can’t see those factors, a few senior engineers carry most of the reviews while other qualified reviewers sit idle. GitLab 19.5 removes that step with Recommend Reviewers Flow. When you create a merge request, GitLab recommends the best individual reviewer based on workload, time zone, availability, and expertise defined by approval rules and CODEOWNERS. The flow explains why it chose that reviewer and lets you assign them in one click. Across your engineering organization, reviews start sooner, review load spreads across every qualified engineer, and more of the code your team writes reaches users. Watch Recommend Reviewers Flow in action: Review is a routing problem, not a headcount problem Teams often treat slow reviews as a people problem. They add reminders, review rotations, extended time zone coverage, and escalations. Those workarounds cost people time and can lead to burnout, and they leave the real cause untouched: routing. The expertise and capacity already exist; there’s just nothing to match them to each merge request as it arrives. Without that match, the author has to answer questions GitLab already can. Who knows this part of the codebase? Who has room in their queue? Who is online right now? Authors fall back on habits that slow everyone down: Assigning a whole group. Everyone gets notified, nobody feels responsible, and the merge request waits for a volunteer. Defaulting to the same trusted reviewer. That person becomes a bottleneck, and their own work stalls. Guessing across time zones. The reviewer you picked just signed off for the day, so your feedback arrives tomorrow. Reviewers pay a price, too. Group assignments flood their notifications with merge requests they will never review, which makes the ones that need them easier to miss. And the reviewers everyone defaults to absorb a growing share of the queue on top of their own work, which wears them down faster. How intelligent reviewer suggestions work GitLab Duo Agent Platform runs Recommend Reviewers Flow on your merge request and does the research for you: You create your merge request. A trigger starts the flow automatically when a merge request is created, whether in draft or ready state, so suggestions arrive from the start. The flow evaluates eligible reviewers. It weighs each candidate’s workload, time zone, availability, and expertise as defined by approval rules and CODEOWNERS, to find the person best suited and positioned to respond. You see the recommendation and the reasoning. The flow explains why it chose each reviewer, so you can approve the suggestion based on that context. You assign with one click. Suggestions appear in a dedicated panel on the merge request. You decide who reviews and when. This design keeps you in control of timing. You can finish iterating or address automated code review feedback first, then bring in a human reviewer when the change is truly ready. You set it up as a flow trigger in your project rather than a project setting, so it fits alongside the other agentic workflows your team already runs. What your team gains The right reviewer match means faster feedback, clearer accountability, and a more balanced workload. Recommend Reviewers Flow makes that call consistently, at scale, and with reasoning you can see and override. Recommend Reviewers Flow also works alongside the other foundational flows in GitLab Duo Agent Platform that handle the work around a merge request: Run Code Review Flow first, so automated feedback lands before a person is brought in. Add Security Review Flow to check merge request changes for business logic vulnerabilities before they merge. Use Fix CI/CD Pipeline Flow to diagnose and repair failed jobs, so a broken pipeline doesn’t hold up an approved change. Use Custom Flows to build Recommend Reviewers Flow into the process your team already follows. Each step from merge request to merge runs on the same platform, under the same policies, so more of the code your team writes actually reaches users. Get started Intelligent reviewer suggestions are generally available in GitLab 19.5 for GitLab.com, GitLab Self-Managed, and GitLab Dedicated. To try them, add the Recommend Reviewers Flow trigger to your project, then create your next merge request. Learn more in our documentation. New to GitLab Duo Agent Platform?
