Sudan conflict: Peace efforts resume to end ‘drone war’ fuelling humanitarian crisis

“Our first session, devoted to de-escalation, will offer an opportunity to explore practical ways forward,” said Pekka Haavisto, Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General for Sudan, in a call to delegates to identify measures and use their “respective channels of engagement [to] build confidence and help create conditions conducive to a comprehensive ceasefire”.  Now in its fourth year, the conflict began in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) – former allies who had jointly seized power in a 2021 coup.   Deadly drone attacks against civilians and public infrastructure have been a feature of the war and frequently condemned by humanitarian and human rights officials.  “The war in Sudan has become a drone war; it kills mostly civilians,” said Alexandre Fasel, State Secretary of Switzerland, which is co-hosting the meeting with the UN. “Famine-like conditions persist in Darfur, the Kordofan state and elsewhere in the country; it is the war that drives this hunger.”  Highlighting the protections offered to non-combatants by international law, Mr. Fasel insisted that the Geneva Conventions “are very clear: the protection of civilians and humanitarian access must not wait for a ceasefire and a political solution. Civilians are suffering and dying today.”  Millions in need Across Sudan today, almost 34 million people need humanitarian support, according to the UN aid coordination office, OCHA, Mr. Fasel noted. He also cited UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) alerts that eight million Sudanese children are out of school today.  “This is not only a violation to the right of education but an immense risk factor for a future stable Sudan. Conflict-related sexual violence has re-emerged as a tactic to terrorise and humiliate the civilian population, often targeted along ethnicity or perceived affiliations,” he insisted.  In addition to discussing efforts towards a ceasefire, delegates are expected to consider a Sudanese-led “transitional political phase that reflects the aspirations” of the country’s people, by means of “an inclusive and credible dialogue”, the UN chief’s Personal Envoy, Mr. Havisto, said, insisting that “our role is to support the Sudanese in shaping their country’s shared future, with due regard for the diversity of their voices and experiences”.  Latest round of talks The talks, known officially as Consultative Meetings on Enhancing Coordination of Peace Initiatives and Efforts in Sudan, have previously taken place in Cairo twice (June 2024 and January 2026) and in Djibouti (July 2024), Nouakchott (December 2024) and Brussels (June 2025) and Cairo (January 2026).   Neither the Sudanese Government nor the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are represented at the meeting in Geneva, as the mechanism was established for mediators to coordinate their actions.  On the margins of Wednesday’s meeting in Geneva, the UN Personal Envoy was also expected to engage with key regional and international partners from the so-called “Quad” mechanism” – involving the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt – and the “Quintet” mechanism of the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the UN, the European Union and the League of Arab States.  The current talks followed a day of humanitarian-focused discussions also at UN Geneva that involved delegations, senior UN officials and international non-governmental organizations operating in Sudan including the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Sudan INGO Forum.  Distributed by APO Group on behalf of UN News.

From curiosity to career: Delta’s DREAM Flight continues to build the aviation talent pipeline

For approximately 160 aspiring aviators from across the Atlanta metro, Oct. 20 was the day the sky stopped being the limit. Students boarded Delta’s 26th annual DREAM Flight at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport for the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility in Mobile, Ala., for a firsthand look at the careers that could one day be theirs. Students from local Atlanta schools and organizations including, Rex Mill Middle, Elite Scholars, the Kindezi Schools, Morrow High School, OBAP ACE Academy and The Atlanta Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen S.T.R.E.A.M. Program spent the day exploring what it takes to connect the world through flight and meeting the people who make it happen. Rotating through four interactive experiences, students toured the Airbus A320 Final Assembly Line and took part in a scavenger hunt on aircraft manufacturing. They tackled aviation-themed activities and challenges at the Old Canteen Center, operated drones and flight simulators at Flight Works and explored the Advanced Manufacturing Program and facilities at Bishop State Community College. Before heading home, students heard from a panel of Delta and Airbus leaders at Bishop State, including Kurt Ford, Managing Director of Flight Training; William Cossey, Managing Director of Supply Chain Management; Tyesha Gray, Director of Human Resources; Julian Anugom, Director of In-Flight Entertainment and Connectivity; and Roderick Rogers, Head of A220 Quality Product Improvement at Airbus. These leaders shared their own career journeys and answered questions about navigating the industry. “Every student on this flight has the potential to become a pilot, engineer, technician or leader. Representation can be a powerful catalyst for unlocking potential, especially when students see people who look like them building, flying and leading in this industry.  Delta’s DREAM Flight helps them better understand the variety of career pathways in the aviation industry,” said Keyra Lynn Johnson, Chief Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Social Impact Officer.  DREAM Flight’s founder honored This year, former Delta pilot and U.S. Air Force veteran John Bailey was inducted into the OBAP Hall of Fame at the organization’s annual conference. The honor recognizes Captain Bailey’s long career dedicated to opening doors for young people who dream of flying, from helping bring OBAP’s ACE Academy to Delta to founding Delta’s DREAM Flight. After flying military transport aircraft for the U.S. Air Force, including missions in Vietnam, Bailey joined Delta in 1973. As a newly hired pilot based in Boston, he often flew round-robin charter flights around the city for terminally ill children, and those flights sparked the idea to create a similar experience for kids who dreamed of becoming pilots. In July 2000, Bailey piloted the first DREAM Flight to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., with 150 students from Atlanta City Schools on board. An all-Black crew of Delta pilots volunteered their time to operate the flight, and members of the Tuskegee Airmen greeted students in Washington. They returned to Atlanta on time, and 26 years later, DREAM Flight remains a one-day journey from takeoff to touchdown. Growing the next generation of aviators  Delta’s DREAM Flight bridges the gap between early curiosity and future career options by building students’ interest in aviation through fun, hands-on educational experiences and pairing them with mentors. By making these foundational experiences readily available and financially accessible, Delta’s partnership with OBAP has successfully reached more than 4,000 young people to date. Many DREAM Flight alumni have gone on to build careers at Delta, including: First Officer Kyle Foley was just 12 years old when he boarded the very first DREAM Flight in 2000. Seeing the pilots and controls up close for the first time set him on a path that led to a career flying for Delta. First Officer Curtis Jackson took DREAM Flight as a teen and grew up looking up to Bailey as one of Delta’s pioneering pilots. Bailey’s advice to keep pushing himself until he reached his goals stayed with Jackson on his path to the flight deck. DREAM Flight is one of several Delta programs, including WING Flight, ACE Academy and the National Flight Academy, that introduce students to aviation careers and expand the aviation talent pipeline. Working together to expand horizons Airbus and Delta have long shared common goals for the future of travel from the talent in the industry to the aircraft to get us there. Earlier this year, Delta announced the addition of 31 next-generation Airbus widebody aircraft to its fleet, an investment that will fuel international growth and accelerate fleet renewal in the years to come.  “We talk a lot about the future of aviation, but you can’t actually build that future without bringing new voices and fresh perspectives into the fold,” said Roderick Rogers, Head of A220 Quality Product Improvement in Mobile. “Opening our doors in Mobile to Delta’s DREAM flight is our way of showing these students that there is a very real, accessible place for them in this industry, whether that's in the cockpit or right here on the manufacturing floor.” Mobile is one of five cities worldwide where Airbus commercial aircraft are assembled. The Mobile Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility has more than 2,000 employees who produce A320 and A220 Family aircraft for customers in the U.S. and Latin America. Earlier this fall, Delta and Airbus also partnered on Delta’s 11th annual WING (Women Inspiring Next Generation) Flight, which brought 160 young women from Atlanta to the same Mobile facility in celebration of Girls in Aviation Day.

CHARBONE Strengthens Its Industrial Gas Offering With a Filling Unit in Sorel-Tracy

VARENNES, QUEBEC - October 21, 2026 - CHARBONE CORPORATION (TSXV: CH; OTCQB: CHHYF; FSE: K47) (“CHARBONE” or the “Company”), a vertically integrated industrial gases company focused on production, distribution and storage of clean ultra-high purity (“UHP”) hydrogen and other strategic industrial gases, announces the addition of an industrial gas cylinder filling unit at its Sorel-Tracy site. This new activity aims to support revenue growth, broaden the commercial offering and develop the Company's customer base in Quebec and other Canadian regions. Specifically, this unit will allow CHARBONE to fill hydrogen and helium cylinders directly from the onset at its Sorel-Tracy site, with the ability to expand to other industrial gases and specialized mixtures in the future. These cylinders, also known as gas cylinders, are used to store, transport, and supply the gases required for various customer applications. CHARBONE will thus directly manage this step in preparing the products for its customers. This new activity represents a further step in the development of CHARBONE's integrated platform. It aims to expand the markets accessible to the Company and generate new revenue opportunities through an offering tailored to the needs of industrial, commercial, and institutional clients. A new lever for business development The filling unit will primarily serve the Quebec market, while also supporting CHARBONE's business development elsewhere in Canada. Target customers include private companies and distribution partners, including independent distributors. The offering will also address supply needs related to certain government contracts and the defense sector. By adding cylinder filling to the activities of its Sorel-Tracy site, CHARBONE is internalizing a step previously sources externally, which is expected to support margin improvement and enhance control over product quality and delivery timelines. This enables the Company to expand the services offered to its customers, develop new business relationships and strengthen its position in industrial gases. Dave Gagnon, President and CEO of CHARBONE, declares: “Our goal is to make Sorel-Tracy a growth engine for CHARBONE. By handling the filling of helium cylinders ourselves, and later industrial gases and specialty mixtures, we are expanding our offering and opening up new opportunities to grow our revenue with a diverse clientele. We are building a Canadian industrial gas group with the ambition of becoming a leading supplier for companies seeking to source their gases from a Canadian partner, reliably. Our priority is to develop lasting relationships with our customers and translate this business expansion into long-term value creation for our shareholders.” Expanding Market Presence Across Quebec and CanadaThis initiative further develops CHARBONE beyond hydrogen production, expanding the activities and services offered within its industrial gas platform. Helium, in particular, represents a high-demand industrial gas with constrained supply, making direct cylinder filling a strategically important capability for CHARBONE’s customers across sectors like semiconductors, aerospace and defense, and advanced manufacturing. The Company intends to leverage this new unit to increase its presence in Quebec and develop business opportunities with Canadian buyers seeking a long-term supply partner. CHARBONE to Present at the Emerging Growth Conference The Company has been invited to present at the upcoming Emerging Growth Conference, a live, interactive online event giving individual and institutional investors, advisors, and analysts the opportunity to receive a brief recap of recent achievements and path forward from CHARBONE’s CFO and Corporate Secretary, Benoit Veilleux. Date: Thursday, October 29, 2026 Time: 3:10 PM ET Register: https://goto.webcasts.com/starthere.jsp?ei=1772210&tp_key=8ae90219a3&sti=ch About CHARBONE CORPORATION CHARBONE is a vertically integrated industrial gases company focused on developing and operating a network of supply hubs for the production, storage, and distribution of Ultra-High Purity (UHP) strategic industrial gases. The Company serves customers across sectors including semiconductors, artificial intelligence and data centers, advanced pharmaceuticals, and aerospace and defense technologies, where UHP gases are critical for high-precision manufacturing processes and operational performance. CHARBONE is advancing a network of clean UHP hydrogen production plants across North America and selected international markets. The Company’s modular, decentralized, and demand-driven approach, combined with its integrated storage and distribution platform for all UHP gases, supports scalable growth, enhances operational flexibility, and enables more stable and diversified revenue generation. This model allows CHARBONE to efficiently serve mid-tier industrial gas customers with a reliable supply of UHP gases, including hydrogen, helium, oxygen, and any other high-demand gases that are often difficult to source reliably at the regional level. The Company is committed to supporting the global transition to a lower-carbon economy by providing accessible, decentralized clean hydrogen and specialty gases, while addressing supply gaps for underserved industrial customers and accelerating the shift towards localized clean energy.
