The changing way people work, listen to music and experience noise will be the focus of the UK Hearing Conservation Association (UKHCA) Annual Conference, taking place in Manchester on 3 November.
Organised by UKHCA in collaboration with the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS), UKHCA 2026: Hearing Conservation – Making an Impact will bring together experts from regulation, occupational health, audiology, academia and industry, to explore how hearing health can be better protected across workplaces and everyday life.
The conference comes as attention increasingly shifts from simply identifying noise exposure to preventing hearing damage through better risk management, effective hearing protection, health surveillance and greater public awareness.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) will provide an update on its new workplace noise campaign, including the regulator’s priorities and what these mean for organisations managing occupational noise.
The conference programme will also look beyond traditional workplace exposure. Experts will explore the effects of recreational noise on young people’s hearing, how to engage Gen Z with hearing protection, and the implementation of the World Health Organization’s Global Standard for Safe Listening at music venues and events.
Other sessions will examine hearing protection effectiveness and the impact of training, occupational health and audiology practice, safe noise exposure for hearing aid users, noise risk management and return on investment, and how case law has shaped claims for hearing damage.
The wider consequences of hearing loss will also be considered, including research examining the association between hearing impairment and depression among older adults.
Clare Forshaw, Founder and Director of UKHCA, said:
“Protecting hearing is about much more than measuring noise and handing out hearing protection. We need to understand how people are exposed to sound, how they use protection, how we identify hearing damage early and, most importantly, how we encourage people to value their hearing before it is affected.
“This year’s programme brings together workplace noise, public health, research and real-world experience because preventing hearing damage requires all of those perspectives.”
The conference will feature contributions from organisations including HSE, RNID, the British Society of Audiology, the Ministry of Defence and Tinnitus UK, alongside researchers from UK and international universities.
For the first time, the conference will also include the UKHCA Hearing Conservation Champions Awards, recognising individuals and organisations making a positive contribution to hearing conservation.
Professor Kevin Bampton, CEO of the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS), said:
“Noise-induced hearing damage is preventable, but prevention depends on moving beyond compliance and treating hearing as something worth protecting throughout people’s working and wider lives.
“The strength of UKHCA is that it brings together disciplines that do not always sit in the same room – occupational hygiene, audiology, acoustics, occupational health, research and regulation. That collaboration is essential if we want to turn what we know about hearing conservation into better prevention in practice.”

Building on their partnership through Delta Sync, Delta and Paramount+ recently hosted SkyMiles Members for an exclusive experience at JetZero’s Design Center in Long Beach, California. Guests stepped into the world of Star Trek, exploring franchise artifacts and ideas that have inspired generations to dream about the future of flight. From there, guests viewed the aviation technologies taking shape today, including JetZero’s blended wing body aircraft and Joby’s electric air taxi.
Select customers also participated in a collaborative innovation workshop alongside the Delta Sustainable Skies Lab partners to explore real-world solutions for aviation decarbonization. The two-day event marked the first time Delta customers were invited inside JetZero’s facility, and heard more about the blended-wing-body aircraft concept, which has the potential to be up to 50% more fuel efficient than today's conventional aircraft designs. Customers also had the opportunity to share feedback on next-generation aircraft concepts designed to advance sustainability while enhancing the customer experience.
For 60 years, the Star Trek franchise has invited audiences to look beyond what seems possible and imagine how technology could transform the way people move, communicate and explore. Through Delta’s partnership with Paramount+, that spirit of imagination became the starting point for an immersive journey into the real-world aircraft concepts and technologies Delta and its partners are advancing today.
"We launched the Sustainable Skies Lab as an innovation incubator to partner with transformative companies bringing revolutionary technologies to life," said Amelia DeLuca, Chief Sustainability Officer for Delta Air Lines. "Where the future of flight once lived in imagination, today it is taking shape through collaboration and innovation. Working together with partners like JetZero and Joby, we're accelerating breakthrough ideas and giving customers a front-row seat to the work that will redefine travel."
“JetZero will deliver the world’s first all-wing airplane, which will be up to 50% more fuel efficient while elevating the customer experience,” said Tom O’Leary, CEO and Co-Founder, JetZero. “Delta Air Lines was our first airline collaborator, which helps ensure the passengers’ voice is heard in the design process as we eliminate major travel friction points. Hearing directly from Delta’s SkyMiles members is invaluable as we approach the Demonstrator’s first flight at the end of 2027.”

Bringing the future of flight on board and home
To continue celebrating Star Trek’s 60th anniversary, Delta and Paramount+ launched new customer offerings across the travel journey:
Six decades of Star Trek at 30,000 feet: Delta customers can explore a curated Star Trekanthology through the airline’s in-flight entertainment, bringing together beloved classics and newer favorites from across the franchise’s 60-year history, all at their seatback screens.”
A one-of-a-kind SkyMiles Experience: Members redeemed miles for access to the event through Delta SkyMiles Experiences, connecting them with a passion point and opening the door to an experience made possible by Delta and its partners.
Through the Delta Sustainable Skies Lab, Delta continues to build cross-industry relationships that support its short-, medium- and long-term decarbonization goals while keeping customers connected to the ideas and innovations that could shape the future of flight.
Delta’s Sustainable Skies Lab partner, Joby Aviation, is developing an electric air taxi that reimagines how customers get to and from airports. Joby already completed demonstration flights across New York City earlier this year.
