Cheche Group Maps a Path From Residential Energy to the Connected Home

BEIJING, Oct 21, 2026 - Cheche Group Inc. (Nasdaq: CCG), a leading auto insurance technology platform, is pushing beyond cars into residential solar and battery storage, naming Australia as the launch market for a household-energy push built around the EnergyLIB brand. The move advances Cheche's "Green Mobility + Green Energy" strategy, diversifying from its core insurance-technology franchise into household energy hardware and software. EnergyLIB is the residential solar-and-storage brand of Long Way Fortune, which operates in Australia and Singapore. EnergyLIB sells modular battery systems and hybrid inverters to households retrofitting storage onto existing rooftop solar, as well as those installing new solar-plus-storage systems. The batteries use LFP chemistry and support capacity expansion over time. The business is also developing home energy management software that draws on household consumption, solar generation, tariff, weather and battery data, aimed at lowering electricity costs while maintaining backup power. The strategy addresses a familiar problem in the smart-home market. Consumers have bought connected speakers, cameras and thermostats for years, but integrated systems have been slow to take off, held back by high upfront prices, interoperability gaps across brands, and the cost of installation and ongoing support. A single smart device struggles to carry the economics of local distribution and service on its own. Residential energy changes that calculus. Solar generation, battery storage and household electricity use already require coordinated installation, monitoring and maintenance, giving EnergyLIB a service infrastructure that broader smart-home plays lack. Cheche's plan is to anchor on this essential energy system and layer on additional home services over time, spreading local delivery and support costs across more than one use case. This remains a planned direction and depends on product development, customer adoption and local delivery economics. Longer term, the framework could extend to coordination between household energy systems and electric-vehicle charging, linking the home and the car. Cheche sees more frequent user interaction and stronger customer retention as the potential benefit, built on integrated hardware, software and service. The technical implementation, commercial model and timing have not been established. In Australia, EnergyLIB operates through local distribution, installation and after-sales partners, with standardized commissioning procedures, equipment service records and feedback loops from installation teams built into its operating model. Cheche disclosed the proposed investment under a non-binding term sheet, under which it would take a 20% equity interest in Long Way Fortune. The proposal is subject to due diligence, the negotiation and execution of definitive agreements, and applicable regulatory and other approvals. The term sheet creates no obligation to close, and there can be no assurance the transaction will be completed. Cheche's existing operations and Long Way Fortune's energy business remain separate.

The Cost of Darkness: as the clocks go back, the value of stolen copper is the wrong number

Wednesday 21 October, 2026 £2,000 of cable, £750,000 of repairs: research paper warns that sites are pricing metal theft by what is taken, not by what stops working Organisations are pricing copper and cable theft against the wrong number, according to a new white paper from VPS, the largest European temporary security specialist. The Cost of Darkness: when copper theft becomes business disruption finds that the value of the stolen metal is almost always the smallest cost in an incident. The paper's examples include: On the Core Valley Lines in South Wales, thieves cut cable with a scrap value of about £2,000. Two earlier thefts on the same network in a single week stopped all passenger services and cost more than £750,000 in repairs, before any delay costs were counted. In East Kent, a man posing as a maintenance worker took copper earthing strips from substations, and local businesses lost more than £220,000. They did not own the substations. The copper in a rapid EV charging cable is worth perhaps £25. Replacing the cable costs the operator around £1,000. The paper is written for the people who look after these sites: estate, facilities, security, risk and insurance leaders. It urges them to judge each site by what stops working if the metal goes, rather than by what a thief could carry away. It also warns that the clocks going back on 25 October changes the risk in particular ways: Fewer intruders, more targeted thefts. VPS data shows property breaches fall by around 40% between September and November, while burglary and theft in its crime intelligence data rise by more than half between October and December. The pattern has held for two consecutive years.More callouts needing someone on site. In the month after the clocks went back in 2025, VPS callouts to alarms rose by about a third, around four times the rise in alarm activations. Criminologist Dr Janice Goldstraw-White of Perpetuity Research, who contributed to the paper, describes how easily organised thieves can blend in: "They literally just put their yellow jackets on and go up and down the country connecting it. They know what they're doing." José Rosa, Director of Insight Solutions at VPS, said: "When the nights draw in, the casual trespassers mostly disappear. The people who are left have usually come for something specific. The sites most at risk are the ones where something important stops working when the metal goes: earthing, back-up generators, signalling. That's where protection should go first." The paper sets out practical steps, including checking for the warning signs, protecting the assets that matter most when they fail, and planning for the return visit. VPS will discuss the findings at a webinar, in November. The Cost of Darkness can be downloaded at https://www.vpsgroup.com/the-cost-of-darkness/ ENDS
