Zambia: Nyimba Farmers Benefit From Food Security Pack Recoveries

Farmers in Vizimumba Community Welfare Assistance Committee (CWAC) in Nyimba District are benefiting from a tractor procured through recoveries under the Food Security Pack (FSP) Programme. The tractor, procured at a cost of K552,500, was handed over to the community by the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services in September 2024 and has been instrumental in improving access to agricultural services and supporting local farming activities. The community began using the equipment during the last farming season, with 80 CWAC members directly benefiting from the initiative. Vizimumba CWAC Chairperson, Mr. Joseph Tembo, said the tractor was being put to good use by providing farmers with access to mechanised land preparation services at an affordable cost. Mr. Tembo explained that farmers seeking ploughing services are charged K960 per hectare, adding that the initiative was helping community members access essential farming services. Speaking during a monitoring visit to assess the utilisation of the equipment, Director of Community Development, Mr. Changano Ngoi, who represented the Permanent Secretary for Technical Services, Ms. Beatrice Chilomo, commended the CWAC members for prudently managing and repaying recoveries under the Food Security Pack Programme. Mr. Ngoi expressed satisfaction with the utilisation of the equipment, noting that its effective use demonstrated the value of reinvesting programme recoveries in community development initiatives. He emphasised the importance of responsibly managing programme resources, stating that the equipment was helping support community initiatives and improve the livelihoods of beneficiaries. The Food Security Pack Programme supports vulnerable but viable farming households with agricultural inputs to strengthen household food security and livelihoods. Recoveries under the programme help sustain these interventions by enabling resources to be reinvested in initiatives that benefit communities. South Africa (SA) Food Exporters Target New Market Opportunities in France

Twenty-seven South African food manufacturing companies will be seeking new export opportunities and commercial partnerships in France when they participate in the SIAL Paris International Food Products Exhibition from 17-21 October 2026. The companies will participate with the support of the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (the dtic), which will host a South African National Pavilion at the exhibition. The companies, drawn from six provinces, will showcase a diverse range of locally manufactured products including processed foods, non-alcoholic beverages, preserved foods, spices, soups, frozen products, cured meats, health and organic products, confectionery, seafood and gourmet food products. SIAL Paris brings together producers, distributors, restaurateurs, importers, exporters and other international food industry players. South Africa’s participation will provide local companies with an opportunity to showcase their products, engage prospective international buyers and explore new commercial opportunities. According to the Acting Deputy Director-General of Exports at the dtic, Mr Willem van der Spuy, South Africa’s participation forms part of the department’s broader efforts to increase exports of value-added products, diversify international markets and support South African companies to establish sustainable export relationships. “France is an important market in South Africa’s export diversification agenda and a strategic economic partner. Our objective is not simply to showcase South African products, but to use platforms such as SIAL Paris to connect export-ready companies with buyers, importers, distributors and other commercial partners who can assist them to establish and expand their presence in the French and broader European markets,” says Van der Spuy. He adds that the dtic is placing increased emphasis on targeted business-to-business matchmaking as part of its international export promotion interventions, with the aim of ensuring that participating companies engage with relevant buyers and commercial partners and that opportunities generated through these engagements are followed through after the exhibition. “We want to strengthen the commercial outcomes from our international engagements. This means increasing targeted B2B matchmaking, generating quality business leads and supporting companies to convert those opportunities into export orders, distribution partnerships and sustainable market relationships,” says Van der Spuy. He says the department’s support for companies participating in international exhibitions should ultimately contribute to expanding South Africa’s exporter base, growing exports of value-added manufactured products and enabling companies to increase production as they secure new international customers. “The real measure of success is what happens beyond the exhibition. When a South African company secures a new buyer, enters a new market or expands an existing export relationship, this creates the basis for increased production, business growth and employment. This is the commercial impact that we want our export promotion programme to increasingly deliver,” adds Van der Spuy. South Africa’s participation at SIAL Paris therefore forms part of a broader effort by the dtic to deepen commercial relations in priority international markets by combining international market exposure with targeted buyer engagement and sustained follow-up aimed at converting export opportunities into tangible commercial outcomes. Adam Curry to End 19-Year No Agenda Run on October 29 After Dvorak's Death

Fredericksburg, TX Friday Oct 16, 2026 @ 6:00 AM Pacific — Episode 1912 of the No Agenda Show, titled 'Chaos Dynamic' and published October 15, 2026, delivers one of the most consequential announcements in the program's history. Host Adam Curry, broadcasting from the Texas Hill Country with guest co-host Matt Long of the Matt Long Show on Hill Country Patriot FM, confirms that his final episode will air October 29, concluding a 19-year run of twice-weekly media deconstruction. The news follows the death of longtime co-host John C. Dvorak and marks a definitive turning point for the listener-supported podcast Curry and Dvorak launched in 2007. Across more than three hours, Curry and Long weave the farewell narrative through the week's news cycle. Topic threads include: James Talarico's Texas Senate town hall, his flu absence, and his comments on abortion and scripture The Wall Street Journal report on Ken Paxton's New Year's Eve 2024 Dubai trip Starshield connectivity throttling in Ukraine and Elon Musk's response on X Greta Thunberg's reappearance at French student protests amid Macron's budget fight An AI-linked cyberattack that spoiled food at roughly 150 Intermarché, Carrefour, and Monoprix stores Curry frames his exit as a spiritual rather than professional decision, rooted in his conversion three and a half years ago. Speaking directly to the audience, he explains the toll of the show's cynical format on his evolving worldview. When John died, honestly, so did the show as we know it. Listening to a show like No Agenda requires two people who have a relationship. Our relationship was entirely unique. He adds that he had been preparing to raise a transition with Dvorak before the double bypass surgery that ultimately preceded his co-host's death. Curry details the ventures that will absorb his focus after October 29, including Godcaster, a platform that turns churches into hyper-local radio stations and now supports more than 300 Christian stations, along with the We Get to Do This podcast co-hosted with Pastor Jimmy and a forthcoming book. He credits producer Chuck Lorre's observations about sitcom family dynamics as a lens for understanding what made the Curry-Dvorak partnership irreplaceable. Long, who hosts the Fredericksburg No Agenda meetups at J6er Jenny's Bar 1776 with his wife Gail, provides on-air support, discussing his Benjamin Franklin reenactments, the Muse AI assistant, and a tip-of-the-day on acetone as a universal cleaner. About No Agenda Show No Agenda is a long-running, listener-supported podcast hosted by Adam Curry and John C. Dvorak that takes a skeptical, independent look at mainstream media, politics, culture, and the forces shaping the daily news cycle. Known for its sharp commentary, humor, and value-for-value model, the show questions how stories are framed, amplified, or ignored. Episode 1912 is available now wherever podcasts are heard, with Curry's final broadcast scheduled for October 29.

Lesotho: Khoeli Scoops Women Heroes Awards

Mrs. Malerato Khoeli from Lesotho has been named among the global recipients of the first-ever FAO 100 Women Heroes Awards during a momentous ceremony held at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) headquarters in Rome. The landmark awards, hosted on the sidelines of the ongoing World Food Forum (WFF) 2026, recognise women farmers who have transformed agriculture from simple subsistence farming into highly impactful enterprises. Congratulating the laureates, FAO Director-General Dr. Qu Dongyu described the awardees as “women of substance” who turn farming into “the very bloodline of humanity”. He noted that many of the 100 women rose from smallholder backgrounds and overcame severe poverty to become essential suppliers of agricultural produce at local, national, and global levels. Dr. Qu highlighted that closing the gender gap within farming and food ecosystems possesses immense economic and social value, noting that gender equality in agriculture could increase global GDP by 1 trillion US dollars and pull 45 million people out of food insecurity. From Humble Beginnings to Global Recognition In an interview following the ceremony, an emotional Mrs. Khoeli stated she was deeply humbled by the maiden award, noting that her agricultural success required intense dedication, “sweat, and blood”. She recalled how her farming journey began as a small-scale poultry layers project before expanding into commercial piggery and large-scale grain production. Mrs. Khoeli dedicated the international award to the entire Basotho nation, giving special credit to the community of Khanyane with whom she maintains a close agricultural partnership. “Children, families, communities and the world need [women’s] leadership and efforts to make agrifood businesses fashionable to younger girls and children across the world,” Mrs. Khoeli said, urging women across Lesotho to persevere in agricultural enterprises. High-Level Support from the Kingdom The historic event was witnessed firsthand by His Majesty King Letsie III, who is leading the high-level delegation from Lesotho in his multi-faceted roles as the Head of State, African Union (AU) Champion for Nutrition and Food Security, and FAO Special Ambassador for Nutrition. Following the conclusion of these high-level side events, His Majesty is scheduled to deliver a key address at the official World Food Day celebrations and WFF closing ceremony on Friday, 16 October 2026. Democratic Republic of the Congo - Security and extended economic activities: In Mahagi, streetlights are transforming residents’ daily lives

More than three years after the launch of a public lighting project supported by MONUSCO, residents of Mahagi continue to feel its benefits. Improved security, economic activities extending into the night, and easier nighttime travel: in this town in northeastern Ituri Province, solar streetlights have transformed the daily lives of many families. The initiative also illustrates the Mission’s commitment to reducing community violence and promoting stabilization. We visited the area to see the impact firsthand. Report It is 7:30 p.m. in the town of Mahagi. Night has fallen over the administrative center of the territory of the same name, located approximately 185 kilometers north of Bunia, near the border with Uganda. Although the sun disappeared below the horizon some time ago, commercial and social activities show no signs of slowing down. In the past, darkness encouraged acts of banditry, exposed residents to assaults, and increased the risk of road accidents. Women returning home late from the market, small-scale traders, and young people were among those most vulnerable to insecurity. “With the lights, we are no longer afraid” For Gisèle, a resident of Mahagi, the benefits are primarily related to security. “The lighting here helps keep us safe. Many women work at the market at night and return home late. With the lights, we feel more comfortable. We are not afraid,” she says. Her simple words convey just how important this infrastructure is to local residents. For Innocent Wabekudu, coordinator of the Mahagi Civil Society Forces Vives, the project has also had a noticeable impact on security. “This project has helped combat nighttime crime and reduce the risk of road accidents. Today, the roads are lit, residents can move around more easily, and traders can continue their activities until late in the evening. In the past, darkness was a real security problem for the population. With these streetlights, we are seeing an improvement, and people can move around with greater peace of mind, almost as if it were broad daylight. This is a very important change for our community, and we greatly appreciate it,” he explains. For women selling food products, small-scale traders, and young people who depend on informal economic activities for their livelihoods, having a few extra hours to work can make a significant difference to their income. Security and community empowerment The public lighting project, funded to the tune of US$93,630, included the installation of 66 solar streetlights along several kilometers of roads. More broadly, public lighting initiatives have led to the installation of 231 streetlights in several towns across Mahagi Territory, including Mahagi-Centre, Nyoka, Amée, and Ngote. At the same time, the beneficiaries received vocational training in the installation of photovoltaic electrical systems. Upon completion of the project, they were awarded certificates. This provided them with professional skills that could support their socioeconomic integration well beyond the duration of the project. The project therefore pursued a dual objective: to provide vulnerable people with immediate income-generating and learning opportunities while equipping the community with infrastructure designed to sustainably improve security and living conditions. This initiative highlights an essential aspect of MONUSCO’s mandate to protect civilians: beyond responding immediately to security threats, the Mission also contributes to creating an environment in which people can live safely, pursue economic activities, and sustainably improve their living conditions. The planned AgeReverse product range includes a Bioage Test, daily skincare products developed around the 12 Hallmarks of Aging, professional mesotherapy products for the medical aesthetics and medspa markets, and non-invasive mesotherapy technology designed to deliver skincare formulations without needles. “Our vision has always extended beyond one product,” Turkmen added. “We believe healthy aging should be approached from both inside and outside the body. RESURGE gives U.S. consumers an introduction to that philosophy, and Amazon gives us an important channel for building awareness and accessibility as the AgeReverse product range grows.” AgeReverse is positioning its expanding portfolio around a science-first philosophy aimed at men and women interested in longevity, healthy aging, cellular wellness and maintaining vitality as they age. The company plans to serve both consumers and professionals in the medical aesthetics market as additional products are introduced. RESURGE is now available to U.S. consumers on Amazon. FDA approves Roche’s Enspryng, a first-in-class IL-6R inhibitor, as the first and only at-home subcutaneous treatment option for thyroid eye disease (TED)

FDA approval based on Phase III SatraGO-1 and -2 studies, with SatraGO-2 demonstrating a significant reduction in eye bulging (proptosis) and improvement in diplopia (double vision), with a favourable safety profile, regardless of TED activity or duration1,2   Enspryng (satralizumab) represents an important advance for people with TED, offering the first at-home SC treatment option every four weeks during maintenance phase, allowing for greater flexibility in how treatment is administered1 Enspryng is an anti-IL-6R mAb using novel recycling antibody technology designed to inhibit IL-6 signalling upstream of autoantibody-driven pathology2,3 TED is a rare autoimmune disease affecting approximately 155 out of every 100,000 people in the US that can lead to facial disfigurement and vision-threatening complications if left untreated3-7 Basel, 16 October 2026 - Roche (SIX: RO, ROP; OTCQX: RHHBY) announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Enspryng® (satralizumab) for the treatment of adults with thyroid eye disease (TED), providing patients with the first and only at-home subcutaneous treatment option. Enspryng can be administered by a person living with TED or a caregiver following training from a healthcare provider.1 “Today’s FDA approval of Enspryng provides an important new option for people with thyroid eye disease, who have long faced limited treatment choices,” said Levi Garraway, MD, PhD, Roche’s Chief Medical Officer and Head of Global Product Development. “As the first subcutaneous treatment for this condition, Enspryng offers a positive safety and efficacy profile and the potential for at-home administration.” "Treating thyroid eye disease requires balancing efficacy, safety, and the practical realities of long-term treatment,” said César A. Briceño, MD, Clinical Trial Investigator and Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the Scheie Eye Institute, University of Pennsylvania. “As a clinical trial investigator, I have seen firsthand the potential of targeted therapies such as Enspryng. The availability of an effective subcutaneous treatment option could provide greater flexibility for both patients and physicians while reducing the logistical burden associated with infusion-based therapies. Enspryng has the potential to meaningfully expand our therapeutic options for patients with thyroid eye disease." The totality of data from the pivotal Phase III SatraGO programme (SatraGO-1 and SatraGO-2) provided clinically meaningful improvements in patients with TED.1,2 While SatraGO-1 did not meet its pre-specified primary efficacy endpoint at Week 24, SatraGO-2 achieved significant and clinically meaningful difference in proptosis response (52.9% in the Enspryng group compared to 23.4% in the placebo group) and in diplopia reduction (60.7% in the Enspryng group compared to 25.8% in the placebo group) in the active TED population.1,2 Consistent results were achieved in the overall population (including both active and chronic patients) in SatraGO-2.1,2 No new safety signals were identified in the SatraGO trials, with Enspryng’s safety profile consistent with its known profile in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD).1,2 Full results were shared at the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) Fall Scientific Symposium in October 2025.2 “Thyroid eye disease not only affects a person’s eyes through bulging and vision problems, but it also takes a profound emotional toll on confidence, identity, relationships and daily life,” said Christine Gustafson, Chief Executive Officer of the TED Community Organization. “Until now, our community has had very limited choices. The approval of Enspryng represents a critical turning point through a convenient, targeted option.” The approval in TED, following a priority review designation, marks the second indication for Enspryng, following an approval in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) in 2020.1,8,9 This follows a recent acceptance by the FDA for priority review in myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD).10 Enspryng is also being studied in additional neurological autoimmune and inflammatory diseases that may benefit from inhibition of IL-6 mediated signalling. About SatraGO-1 and -2 SatraGO-1 (NCT05987423) and -2 (NCT06106828) are identically designed, Phase III, randomised, placebo-controlled, multicentre studies to determine the efficacy, durability and tolerability of Enspryng for the treatment of adults with active, moderate‑to‑severe TED and chronic TED. The studies enrolled a total of 258 patients from 19 countries. Participants were randomised 1:1 to receive Enspryng or placebo. The primary endpoints were the proportion of participants with active, moderate-to-severe TED who achieved an at least 2 mm reduction in proptosis in the study eye from baseline at week 24.2,3 About thyroid eye disease (TED) TED, also known as Graves’ ophthalmopathy, is a complex inflammatory autoimmune disease, affecting the area around the eyes and the eyes themselves, that can be sight-threatening, debilitating and disfiguring.4,5 The most common symptoms are redness, swelling of the eyes, eyelid retraction, appearance of a stare, bulging of one or both eyes (proptosis), double vision (diplopia) and pain.4,6 TED is a progressive rare disease that affects approximately 155 people out of every 100,000.3-5,7 It most commonly occurs in people with hyperthyroidism, approximately 50% of whom experience at least mild TED, but it can also affect people with hypothyroidism or normal thyroid function.4,11 Despite existing approved treatments for TED, a medical need remains for therapies that are effective, well-tolerated, and have a convenient route of administration.3 About Enspryng® (satralizumab) Enspryng, developed by Chugai, a member of the Roche Group, is a humanised monoclonal antibody that is designed to bind to both soluble and membrane-bound interleukin-6 receptors (IL-6R), thereby inhibiting IL-6 mediated signalling, a known key pathway involved in inflammation. Enspryng incorporates Chugai’s proprietary antibody recycling technology, which enables pH-dependent binding to IL-6R and repeated engagement of the target, extending antibody circulation and supporting sustained inhibition of IL-6 mediated signalling.1-3,12 Enspryng is the first and only IL-6R inhibitor treatment currently approved in approximately 90 countries for neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD), including in the European Union and United States, with a well established safety profile in over 16,000 patients.1,13 Roche is committed to developing Enspryng in additional neurological autoimmune and inflammatory diseases that may benefit from inhibition of IL-6 mediated signalling, including autoimmune encephalitis (AIE) and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD). The FDA granted priority review of the Enspryng supplemental Biologics License Application (sBLA) for MOGAD in September 2026 with an approval decision expected in January 2027.10 Enspryng has orphan drug designation in the United States and European Union for NMOSD and MOGAD and in the United States for anti-NMDA receptor autoimmune encephalitis (anti-NMDAR AIE) and leucine-rich glioma-inactivated 1 autoimmune encephalitis (LGI1 AIE).
