Hong Kong, Oct 22, 2026 - Competition in AI has evolved from contests over individual technologies into a new phase defined by coordination across foundational ecosystems and industry value chains. Zhipu, a leading large-model developer, has again expanded its footprint as a limited partner (LP) in the primary market by teaming up with Jiangmen Ventures to establish a cognitive intelligence venture capital fund. QuantGroup (02685.HK), a provider of world foundation models for Physical AI, is among the fund's LPs.
Corporate registration records show that Zhejiang Zhipu Jiangmen Cognitive Intelligence Venture Capital Partnership (Limited Partnership) was incorporated in Shangcheng District, Hangzhou, on 24 September with total subscribed capital of RMB 1 billion. Its business scope covers venture capital, limited to investments in unlisted companies. The fund combines local state-owned capital, industrial investors and specialist investment firms. Two local government-backed limited partners, Hangzhou Shangcheng Linghang Venture Capital Co., Ltd. and Hangzhou Urban Investment Industry Development Investment Partnership (Limited Partnership), hold a combined 60% interest. The other partners are Zhejiang Zhipu Xinpian Technology Co., Ltd., an affiliate of Zhipu; Hainan QuantGroup Technology Co., Ltd., an affiliate of Hong Kong-listed QuantGroup (02685.HK); Hainan Hezun Investment Co., Ltd.; and Hangzhou Jizhi Enterprise Management Consulting Co., Ltd. The latter also serves as the fund's executive partner, and its appointed representative is Du Feng, a founding partner of Jiangmen Ventures. The deadline for partners to pay in their subscribed capital is September 2031.
Industry observers generally expect that collaboration among leading companies raises the success rate of ecosystem-building, reinforcing a Matthew effect in which the strong become stronger. Companies that are first to form ecosystem alliances can secure early access to downstream use cases and early-stage projects. Zhipu has pursued precisely this approach. In 2025, it partnered with Unilumin Group (300232.SZ), a leader in optoelectronic smart display technology, and MetaView to establish Shenzhen Zhixian Robot Technology Co., Ltd., building an innovation ecosystem for AI-powered smart terminals. In the energy sector, iFlytek worked with PetroChina, China Mobile and Huawei to develop the Kunlun large model, helping PetroChina set a new benchmark for AI in energy.
QuantGroup's presence among the LPs has attracted considerable attention. As Hong Kong's first listed "intelligent species" company, QuantGroup positions itself as a provider of world foundation models for Physical AI. It has pursued a two-pillar strategy combining AI-enabled e-commerce solutions with Physical AI, using cash flow from its established consumer business to fund frontier R&D. For infrastructure providers, ecosystem building is a core capability: connecting upstream model developers, midstream embodied-robotics developers, downstream use cases and capital providers to secure a central position in the Physical AI ecosystem during its early development. At the ecosystem level, QuantGroup works with partners including ByteDance's Volcengine, Beijing Ruihong Embodied Intelligence Robot Technology Co., Ltd., an affiliate of Tungkong Inc. (002117.SZ), and Chewujie to build an embodied AI ecosystem. This has extended its commercial reach from restaurant kitchens to brick-and-mortar venues such as car showrooms. Its role as an LP in the cognitive intelligence fund established by Zhipu and Jiangmen Ventures marks another step toward moving upstream in the Physical AI value chain and gaining earlier access to large-model capabilities and early-stage projects.
Building an ecosystem with the first publicly listed large-model company naturally improves the odds of success, as the two sides can combine their strengths, complement one another and develop benchmark industry solutions quickly. Zhipu (02513.HK) listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on 8 January, becoming the world's first publicly listed large-model company. In May, Beijing Zhipu Future Technology Co., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Zhipu, and Guotai Junan Innovation Investment Co., Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Guotai Haitong, jointly established an RMB 540 million AI industry fund in Zhangjiang, Shanghai. Earlier, in 2024, Zhipu led the establishment of the Z Fund (LinkX Capital), an AGI ecosystem fund with RMB 1.5 billion of assets under management at its first close. According to Zhipu's 2025 financial report, LinkX Capital (Z Fund) had an aggregate value of RMB 1.3027 billion at the end of 2025 and had invested in more than 30 AI companies.
Jiangmen Ventures, which is partnering with Zhipu on the new fund, is an early-stage venture capital firm focused on discovering technology-driven start-ups. It primarily invests in foundational AI technologies and their industrial applications, and was one of Zhipu's Series A investors. The two organizations have a long-standing relationship. The "cognitive intelligence" in the fund's name aligns with Zhipu's large-model technology roadmap. The fund's location in Hangzhou also builds on Zhipu's ties with the city. In March 2025, Zhipu raised more than RMB 1 billion in strategic financing, with participation from Hangzhou municipal state-owned investors including Hangzhou City Investment Industrial Fund and Shangcheng Capital.
Venture capital professionals note that, for companies expanding into Physical AI, investing as an LP in an industry fund led by a leading large-model company can generate financial returns and provide early access to upstream model capabilities and early-stage projects. As large-model competition shifts from pure performance to ecosystem strength, more industrial companies are entering the primary market as investors.

With Polarise Rise and Polarise Drive, the German AI provider extends its own European AI Factories into a full-stack sovereign cloud
BERLIN, Germany – October 22, 2026 – Polarise announced today at NVIDIA GTC Berlin the launch of the Polarise AI Cloud, a sovereign AI platform that runs entirely on the company’s own infrastructure in Europe. The first two products, Polarise Rise and Polarise Drive, give enterprises a secure way to use state-of-the-art AI – from a ready-to-use enterprise chatbot assistant to API access to leading open-weight models – without losing control over their data.
From AI Factory to AI Cloud
Polarise already operates own data centers (“AI Factories”) in Germany and Norway, including its Munich Tucherpark facility that was implemented in record time in collaboration with partners such as one of Europe's largest telecommunications companies. With the launch of its own AI Cloud, Polarise now covers the entire stack itself: data centers, NVIDIA accelerated computing, cloud software and the applications enterprises use every day. Each layer of it is eventually owned and operated by a European entity.
Instead of building new data centers from scratch, Polarise converts existing buildings -properties that already have grid connections and permits - using its modular AI Pods: small, self-contained data centers that are installed and connected on site. This is how Polarise brought its Munich AI Hub from concept to operation in six months, where conventional projects take years. The Polarise AI Cloud therefore scales quickly with customer demand.
A sovereign enterprise chat assistant for enterprises
Polarise Rise is an AI chat assistant for companies. Employees can collaborate in workspaces to write, analyze and research, while company data stays within their own control, processed on Polarise infrastructure in Europe. Rise comes with three subscription models and is available to enterprises and teams starting today.
Sovereign managed inference on open-weight models
Polarise Drive lets developers and companies run leading open-weight models such as GLM 5.3, Kimi K3 or the latest NVIDIA Nemotron models through a single API, without managing any hardware. Polarise Drive is compatible with the OpenAI SDK, so existing applications can switch by changing one line of code. Customers pay per token, with transparent pricing and no idle capacity. Future features include an Agentic Engine - a platform for configuring and deploying custom AI agents - as well as MCP support for tool integration, and much more. Drive is in controlled rollout and accessible via application.
Increso uses Polarise Drive for agentic customer service
Italian customer experience company Increso is among the first customers running Polarise Drive in production. Increso builds AI agents that handle customer service for companies around the clock, combining its proprietary platform Inxide, process expertise and operational governance in a single partner. Its solutions serve more than 10,000 end customers every day.
“Our clients expect AI agents that are fast, reliable and fully compliant with European data protection rules,” said Marco Modonesi, CTO at Increso. “With Polarise Drive, we run the latest Nemotron models for our agents on European infrastructure – without compromising on performance or on control over our clients’ data. That makes it much easier for us to bring agentic AI into customer service, including data-sensitive industries.”
Sovereignty by structure – without compromise
Polarise owns and operates its infrastructure from rack to API. Customer data never leaves the EU and is not exposed to the U.S. CLOUD Act. Polarise is certified to ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO 9001. Attestations for BSI C5 and SOC 2 Type I and Type II are in preparation.
“European companies want to use the best AI available, but they should not have to give up control over their data to do it,” said Michel Boutouil, CEO of Polarise. “We built our own AI Factories first. Now we are putting a sovereign cloud layer on top of them. Our customers get the full stack from one European provider – and they don’t pay a premium for sovereignty.”
Built on the latest NVIDIA platforms
The Polarise AI Cloud runs on NVIDIA Blackwell. For its cloud, Polarise relies primarily on high-performance servers from NVIDIA partner Kerno.
Visitors to NVIDIA GTC Berlin can experience the Polarise AI Cloud live at booth 3016.

Battery prices are falling, but investment in energy storage across Africa is struggling to keep pace. The latest ESI Africa Industry Insights: Energy & Storage Volume 5 (2026) (https://apo-opa.co/3UANmwN) examines the gap between increasingly affordable technologies and the financing, regulation and infrastructure planning needed to support deployment.
According to BloombergNEF, stationary battery pack prices fell to around US$70/kWh in 2025, a 45% year-on-year decline. Yet of the US$13.84 billion in energy transition investment Africa attracted in 2025, tracked by Electron Intelligence, just US$666 million, less than 5%, went towards storage and flexibility.
For Nicolette Pombo-van Zyl, Editor-in-Chief of ESI Africa, storage has become essential to energy development. “It is now the part that decides whether a project gets financed, whether a grid stays stable after sunset and whether the clean energy already being generated is actually used. The industry's challenge is that capital, regulation and data have not yet caught up with that reality,” says Pombo-van Zyl.
Understanding storage economics and infrastructure needs
The publication examines battery storage economics, including South African modelling that places lithium iron phosphate ahead of competing chemistries for stationary applications. It also considers how deployment scale, degradation in hot climates, financing costs, import tariffs and freight affect project viability.
Emerging battery technologies and their potential implications for Africa’s mineral value chains feature alongside cybersecurity risks and long-duration storage solutions.
The volume also examines Africa’s expanding distributed solar market. According to Ember, approximately 26GW of solar was installed across Africa between 2023 and 2025, with only a quarter accounted for in utility-scale and off-grid figures. Improved registration and data could help planners understand this growth and its impact on electricity networks.
Connecting investment with delivery
The African Infrastructure Elites section highlights the growing role of storage in renewable energy financing, featuring developments including Scatec’s Obelisk project in Egypt and Mulilo’s Hartebeesfontein battery storage project.
“Battery prices have done their part. What happens next depends on decisions that sit with regulators, utilities and financiers around how storage is valued for the services it provides, how it is protected as connected infrastructure, and how quickly projects are prepared to the point where capital can move. Those are solvable problems, and the sector already has the tools to solve them,” says Pombo-van Zyl.
Published in partnership with Envusa Energy, NOA Group and Lyra Energy, the Energy & Storage Volume is available for free download to subscribers and non-subscribers.
