Cibolo Texas EDC Awards Over $200,000 in FY2026 Grants

Cibolo, Texas Wednesday Oct 21, 2026 @ 7:00 AM Eastern — The Cibolo Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) announced that it awarded more than $200,000 in business development grants during fiscal year 2026, which ended September 30. The milestone comes during the first fiscal year of the EDGE Grant Program, an initiative designed to encourage business investment, commercial property improvements, and continued economic growth throughout Cibolo. Building on that progress, CEDC has consolidated its business grant offerings into a single program for fiscal year 2027: the Economic Development for Growth & Enhancement (EDGE) Grant Program. The updated program provides two funding tiers, allowing CEDC to support both smaller commercial improvement projects and larger business investments. Two Grant Opportunities for FY2027 The EDGE Grant Program now includes: Standard EDGE Grant: A 50/50 matching reimbursement grant of up to $15,000 for eligible commercial property improvements. Businesses can use the funding for qualifying projects such as façade enhancements, signage, exterior construction, lighting, and parking improvements. Special Circumstances EDGE Grant: Grants of up to $50,000 for qualifying projects involving an investment of $1 million or more. This tier is designed to provide additional support for larger business investments that contribute to Cibolo's economic development goals. By bringing its grant offerings together under the EDGE program, CEDC aims to simplify the process for businesses seeking financial assistance while providing greater flexibility to support projects of different sizes. “The EDGE Grant Program helps Cibolo businesses invest, grow, and strengthen our local economy,” said Clancy Hardin, Assistant Director of Economic Development, City of Cibolo. “The program’s first-year results demonstrate strong momentum, and the updated structure will allow us to support projects of all sizes.” Supporting Business Growth in Cibolo Originally introduced in July 2025, the EDGE Grant Program was created to help existing and new businesses invest in commercial properties, improve their facilities, and strengthen their presence in the community. Local businesses across retail, restaurants, and personal services have received grant awards, including River City ACE, CRUST Pizza, Max & Louie's New York Diner, and other Cibolo establishments. These awards demonstrate the program's reach across different business sectors and its role in encouraging local investment. "The Edge Grant signaled to us that the City of Cibolo was invested in supporting and helping us bring our dream of opening our restaurant to reality,” said Derek Campbell, Owner of Crust Pizza in Cibolo, Texas. “The grant showed us we picked the right city and how important we as small business owners are to the City of Cibolo!  They have continued to support us throughout our entire -process and have shown they are committed to our success.”  "Receiving the EDGE Grant means so much to our family,” said Shannon Eklund from River City Ace Hardware in Cibolo, Texas. “Opening River City Ace has been a labor of love, and we are incredibly grateful to the City of Cibolo for believing in our vision and supporting our investment in this community. From the beginning, our goal has been to create more than just a hardware store, we wanted to build a place where neighbors feel welcome, relationships are formed, and the community comes together. We are so proud to call Cibolo home and look forward to growing alongside this wonderful community for many years to come."   “The City of Cibolo’s EDGE Grant program was instrumental in helping bring Max & Louie’s NY Diner to life in Cibolo, Texas," said Drew Glick, Owner of Max & Louie’s NY Diner, Cibolo, Texas. “The amazing team, led by Clancy Hardin, was incredibly helpful throughout the process, and the availability of this grant to local business owners is truly immeasurable. The funding helped us install the drop-down blinds on our patio, enhancing the comfort and usability of our outdoor dining space, while also helping offset the cost of installing our incredible Max & Louie’s building signs. Programs like the EDGE Grant demonstrate the City’s commitment to supporting local businesses, strengthening the community, and helping businesses create inviting spaces for residents and visitors alike. We are extremely grateful to the City of Cibolo and its outstanding team for their support.” The more than $200,000 in grants awarded during FY2026 reflects CEDC's ongoing efforts to encourage private investment and support the local business community. The program also supports Cibolo's broader economic development strategy, which emphasizes business retention, expansion, and attracting new investment. With the introduction of the two-tier EDGE program for FY2027, CEDC is expanding the range of projects that may qualify for assistance while maintaining its focus on responsible economic development and long-term community growth. Businesses interested in learning more about the EDGE Grant Program, eligibility requirements, or the application process can visit www.cibolotx.gov/EDC or contact the Cibolo Economic Development Corporation at Email Contact. The Cost of Darkness: as the clocks go back, the value of stolen copper is the wrong number

Wednesday 21 October, 2026 £2,000 of cable, £750,000 of repairs: research paper warns that sites are pricing metal theft by what is taken, not by what stops working Organisations are pricing copper and cable theft against the wrong number, according to a new white paper from VPS, the largest European temporary security specialist. The Cost of Darkness: when copper theft becomes business disruption finds that the value of the stolen metal is almost always the smallest cost in an incident. The paper's examples include: On the Core Valley Lines in South Wales, thieves cut cable with a scrap value of about £2,000. Two earlier thefts on the same network in a single week stopped all passenger services and cost more than £750,000 in repairs, before any delay costs were counted. In East Kent, a man posing as a maintenance worker took copper earthing strips from substations, and local businesses lost more than £220,000. They did not own the substations. The copper in a rapid EV charging cable is worth perhaps £25. Replacing the cable costs the operator around £1,000. The paper is written for the people who look after these sites: estate, facilities, security, risk and insurance leaders. It urges them to judge each site by what stops working if the metal goes, rather than by what a thief could carry away. It also warns that the clocks going back on 25 October changes the risk in particular ways: Fewer intruders, more targeted thefts. VPS data shows property breaches fall by around 40% between September and November, while burglary and theft in its crime intelligence data rise by more than half between October and December. The pattern has held for two consecutive years.More callouts needing someone on site. In the month after the clocks went back in 2025, VPS callouts to alarms rose by about a third, around four times the rise in alarm activations. Criminologist Dr Janice Goldstraw-White of Perpetuity Research, who contributed to the paper, describes how easily organised thieves can blend in: "They literally just put their yellow jackets on and go up and down the country connecting it. They know what they're doing." José Rosa, Director of Insight Solutions at VPS, said: "When the nights draw in, the casual trespassers mostly disappear. The people who are left have usually come for something specific. The sites most at risk are the ones where something important stops working when the metal goes: earthing, back-up generators, signalling. That's where protection should go first." The paper sets out practical steps, including checking for the warning signs, protecting the assets that matter most when they fail, and planning for the return visit. VPS will discuss the findings at a webinar, in November. The Cost of Darkness can be downloaded at https://www.vpsgroup.com/the-cost-of-darkness/ ENDS

President El-Sisi Attends Session on Urban Development on 2nd Day of Egypt Forum 2026

On Tuesday, 20 October 2026, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi participated in a session on urban and spatial development, on the second day of the Egypt Forum 2026. Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly also attended. The Spokesman for the Presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, said the session addressed urban development efforts undertaken in Egypt since 2014 across the sectors of roads, ports, and transportation. This includes the establishment of local manufacturing facilities for various modes of transport and railway cars, as part of a broader initiative to localize industry. The session also addressed relevant challenges, particularly those concerning road networks, railways, the metro system, and maritime transport. Furthermore, the discussion reviewed the state of the transport sector prior to 2014, alongside the achievements made in roads, bridges, the metro, electric rail transit, railways, maritime transport, and ports. The session also covered future targets, governance measures, efforts to reduce accidents, and the promotion of green mass transit. It was emphasized that the state is working to advance these developments across all governorates. Moreover, the economic, social, and environmental impacts of both completed and underway transport projects were tackled. The session also addressed challenges related to the development of rural areas, as well as drinking water and sanitation infrastructure. This is in addition to reviewing efforts to establish new residential areas and cities and targets for enhancing the urban environment and improving the quality of life nationwide, also efforts to develop major cities and provincial capitals across 13 governorates—alongside the achievements made in eradicating slums. In this context, it was noted that 61 new cities have been established. The session also touched upon the project to develop Khedivial Cairo, as well as efforts to advance the drinking water sector, which includes the implementation of 522 related projects. Additionally, the session reviewed progress in the sanitation sector and the status of housing projects—both completed and ongoing—which have so far resulted in the construction of 1.96 million new residential units. President El-Sisi made an intervention to point out that an "ideal" approach to addressing any existing issue or challenge is, in itself, inherently flawed, noting that critics of a given issue often propose an "ideal" solution. The President noted that the Egyptian population lives on only about 7% of the country’s total land area—an expanse of roughly 60,000 to 70,000 square kilometers, adding that this situation has had social, security cultural and investment repercussions. The President described the situation as inhumane, unnatural, and a hindrance to growth—even if the Egyptian people have become accustomed to it, compounded by a lack of comprehensive urban planning to keep pace with the nation’s growth over the years. This has subsequently led to the proliferation of slum areas around Cairo, the deterioration of transport services, and the spread of negative practices. The President explained the difficulty of confronting all challenges through "ideal" solutions, citing the current road toll fees as an example, noting that they fail to cover the costs of initial investment or even ongoing maintenance. The President also highlighted that the Egyptian state successfully resolved the electricity crisis, a step essential for fostering development and stabilizing the nation. Regarding the removal of certain burial sites, the President explained that this action was necessitated by groundwater issues affecting a large number of graves. The President noted that while the ideal solution would have been to leave the sites untouched, a pragmatic approach was required—driven by religious and humanitarian considerations, as well as the State’s respect for its citizens. The President pointed out that the State is in the process of constructing, approximately 70,000 new burial plots across three phases in the vicinity of Helwan and the city of 10th of Ramadan. The President emphasized that the State undertook these measures for the public good, and has also assumed the associated costs. The President commended the initiative of Wafai Makadi, the head of Al-Sarariya village in Minya, in addressing the challenges facing his village. The President described this experience as an exemplary model capable of driving positive transformation in villages across the country, while also helping to alleviate the burden on the State. The President underscored the importance of shaping public opinion responsibly and avoiding attempts to incite citizens; stressig that the media—and all relevant stakeholders—must work to inform and raise public awareness regarding the true facts of the situation. In the context of housing, the President directed the government and the Tahya Misr Fund to collaborate on the construction of 200,000 residential units intended for rental, with the costs to be shared equally between them. Regarding the old rent law, the President emphasized that its original intent was to break the prevailing focus on home ownership and reintroduce the practice of renting. The situation over the past decades led to a major crisis of slums and unplanned housing in Egypt, as the state was unable to step in for the private sector and civil society to provide housing units that met citizens' needs. The President added that it is not possible to achieve everything we aspire to, in light of the limited resources—especially considering Egypt’s large size, the immense scale of the challenges it faces, and the significant deterioration that had affected all state institutions and their operational paths. The President pointed out that nations typically grow and develop over a span of 50 to 100 years; therefore, it is unrealistic to expect such a transformation to occur within 10 or 12 years, noting that he had never made such a promise to the Egyptian people, noting that if the desired development and progress could be achieved within 20 to 30 years, it would be the best possible outcome. The President further underscored the commitment to concluding the ongoing development and modernization efforts by 2030, positioning Egypt on the threshold of real progress, investment, and development to take the Egyptian people to better horizons. The President wished his successors more success and achievements. The President pointed out that what has been accomplished in Egypt would not have been done in less than 30 years. On this occasion, the President extended his congratulations on the conclusion of the agreement regarding these projects and noted that the state encourages investors to operate across all sectors, while emphasizing the importance of the social responsibility component within investment projects. In this context, the President requested that the government collaborate with the Talaat Moustafa Group to develop 200,000 residential units intended for rental purposes.
