Société Nationale d’Électricité (SNEL) and Invest Africa convene United Arab Emirates (UAE) investors to explore opportunities across the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s (DRC) energy infrastructure pipeline

A Bankable Co-Investment Pipeline: SNEL and Invest Africa convened UAE leaders to showcase a structured, multi-gigawatt infrastructure pipeline, highlighting a highly secure opportunity for institutional capital to scale up renewable generation and modernise the national grid. Unrivaled Regional Cost Leadership: Moving beyond theoretical potential, SNEL leverages an operational, 99.9% clean hydro baseload that delivers a structural cost advantage with an LCOE of ~$32/MWh, significantly outperforming regional peers and offering highly competitive margins for industrial off-takers. Powering the Global Mineral Transition: Delivering reliable, ultra-low-carbon electricity is the strategic prerequisite for the DRC's copper and cobalt mining sectors, driving sustainable industrialisation while securing the critical supply chains essential to the global energy transition. Société Nationale d’Électricité (SNEL SA), the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s (DRC) national electricity utility, in partnership with Invest Africa (https://www.InvestAfrica.com/) convened senior representatives from the UAE’s investment, finance, energy and infrastructure sectors for a private investment dinner in Dubai on 21 October. The event provided a platform to explore opportunities for international investors to participate in the development and modernisation of the DRC’s energy infrastructure. Led by SNEL Director General, Prof. Dr. Ir. Teddy Lwamba Muba, the discussion focused on SNEL’s proposed investment pipeline, spanning large-scale hydropower, solar energy, battery storage, regional power interconnections, transmission infrastructure and digital metering. The pipeline reflects the scale of investment required to expand electricity supply, modernise the national grid and strengthen the DRC’s role in regional energy markets. The DRC possesses an estimated 167 GW of hydropower potential across 3,350 identified sites, including the approximately 44 GW Inga complex. Yet, according to SNEL’s investment presentation, just 4.6 GW of hydropower capacity is currently installed nationwide. Unlocking this potential represents a significant opportunity to expand low-carbon electricity generation while supporting the country’s industrial development and growing demand for reliable power. Among the opportunities presented were three major hydropower projects: Luapula, with a proposed capacity of 800 MW and an estimated investment of US$1.68 billion; Kibombo, at 246 MW and US$662 million; and Wanie Rukula, at 688 MW and US$3.4 billion. The wider pipeline also includes approximately US$4 billion in solar photovoltaic development, alongside investments in cross-border transmission, grid expansion and smart metering. Reliable, competitively priced electricity will be essential to the DRC’s ambitions as a global supplier of critical minerals, particularly copper and cobalt. Expanding low-carbon power infrastructure can help meet the needs of energy-intensive mining operations, support more sustainable mineral supply chains and create the conditions for wider industrial growth. Improved regional interconnections could also strengthen electricity trade and enable the DRC to contribute further to regional energy security. The discussions took place as SNEL pursues measures to strengthen electricity supply in the near term. Through its partnership with Turkish company Karpowership, SNEL is preparing for the deployment of a floating power plant with an announced initial capacity of approximately 134 MW in Matadi, intended to inject additional electricity into the national grid and support supply to Kinshasa. The initiative illustrates the importance of combining near-term capacity solutions with sustained investment in generation and transmission infrastructure. Prof. Dr. Ir. Teddy Lwamba Muba, Director General of SNEL SA, said: “Reliable, ultra-low-carbon power is the catalyst converting critical mineral endowments into sustainable industrial wealth. SNEL’s strategic transformation delivers exactly that: modernizing our generation fleet, securing regional transmission links, and deploying private capital frameworks under our updated regulatory regime. We are offering international investors disciplined governance, captive industrial demand, and long-term, risk-adjusted returns at the heart of Africa’s clean energy corridor.” Chantelé Carrington, CEO of Invest Africa, said: “The DRC presents significant opportunities for investors seeking to participate in Africa’s next phase of infrastructure development. Reliable electricity is fundamental to industrialisation, regional trade and the growth of competitive, sustainable businesses. By bringing SNEL together with investors and industry leaders from the UAE, we aim to support the partnerships needed to mobilise capital, advance priority projects and realise the country’s energy potential.” The dinner formed part of Invest Africa’s wider work to connect African businesses and institutions with international investors, facilitating partnerships across key sectors of the continent’s economy. Invest Africa and SNEL will look to build on the discussions and support further engagement with prospective investment partners around the DRC’s energy infrastructure priorities. Working Students Build Interview Skills at Free Resume Bootcamp

Working Students Build Interview Skills at Free Resume Bootcamp Thu, 10/29/2026 - 08:05 Subheader Total Spark helps young job seekers prepare for the hiring process. Body Verizon By Gyrate Media At a glance Free workshops deliver career development: Total Spark partners with local nonprofits like Goodwill to provide young job seekers with resume workshops, mentorship and free career resources directly in their communities. Community events tackle youth job market barriers: With 73% of working students desiring extra support, accessible local workshops help youth overcome hiring hurdles, scheduling conflicts and limited guidance. Executive coaching turns life experience into interview confidence: Students practice mock interviews with corporate leaders, learning to translate personal achievements, such as team leadership and schedule management, into valuable workplace strengths. For La’Niyah Mondie, a high school senior hoping to build a career in marketing, getting a job has been difficult. Unreliable transportation, employers who don’t reply and the paperwork hurdles that come with being a teenager looking for work have all gotten in the way. Seeking free job resources to move her search forward, Mondie decided to attend a Total Spark and Goodwill Resume Bootcamp at a Total Wireless store in Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood. Mondie was one of a group of high school and college students who spent the afternoon learning how to turn their everyday experiences into skills that employers value. The event was presented by Total Spark, Total Wireless’s community grant program for working students. Total Spark partners with local nonprofits across the country—including Goodwill in Chicago, the LA Conservation Corps, Dallas’ Wilkinson Center and Temple University’s Lenfest Center for Community Workforce Partnerships—to host in-person events at Total Wireless stores, providing working students with career workshops, mentorship and job resources. The unique challenges facing working students “Today’s job market isn’t kind to youth,” says Diana Muñoz, director of youth engagement at Goodwill of Greater Milwaukee and Chicago. “During the school year, students struggle to find employers that will work with their school schedule, and many times, [they have] to decide between having a job or going to school.” This squeeze is even tighter for those who manage to find jobs while attending school. “Time is the biggest luxury for working students,” says Anna Lee, partnerships lead at Empower Work, an employment-focused nonprofit that collaborated with Total Spark and Goodwill to create the bootcamp. “They are often juggling work, family responsibilities, bills and everything we all experience, but compounded.” Free career development and community mentorship A Total Wireless survey found that 73% of working students wish they had additional support to help them pursue a career. That’s where the bootcamp comes in. During the event, students learned why a resume matters, critiqued good and bad examples of resumes as a group, and rehearsed interviews with Total Wireless executives. Nicole Maldonado, a mission learning consultant at Goodwill who led the Chicago bootcamp, says neighborhood presence is key. “Having these events in our communities makes them easily accessible for our participants and their families to join,” she says. “Events like this definitely boost our students’ confidence.” Turning personal experience into interview success For aspiring working students like La’Niyah Mondie, the day’s event delivered that exact confidence boost. She had a one-on-one mock interview session with James Lee, senior director of channel field sales at Total Wireless. Lee coached her on communicating her strengths during an interview, advising Mondie to answer questions with specific stories from her own life, such as leading her basketball team through a rough patch and balancing school with sports training twice a day. “Now, I feel more confident when I’m talking to others,” Mondie says. Before the session ended, Lee left her with one last piece of advice: “Don’t sell yourself short, ever,” he said. “Go into that interview knowing, ‘I got this.’” Total Wireless’s Total Spark supports working students balancing jobs, education, and family with training, mentorship and career development opportunities that helps turn ambition into advancement. The program is part of Verizon Value Cares, the responsible business platform across Verizon’s prepaid brands, built on the belief that our customers have big ambitions and deserve someone in their corner. How does Total Spark empower working students through free career resources? Total Spark, Total Wireless’s community grant program, collaborates with local nonprofits to bring free job development, mentorship and career resources directly into neighborhood stores. By hosting accessible events like resume bootcamps and mock interview sessions with corporate leaders, Total Spark helps working students build professional confidence and bridge the gap between education and employment. Where can teenagers and college students find free job resources and development programs? Young job seekers can access free job development tools through local nonprofit organizations, youth workforce centers, school counseling offices and community grant programs like Total Spark. These programs offer free job resources, including resume workshops, skill development and interview coaching locally. How can students with no formal work experience build a resume and interview with confidence? First-time job seekers can feature everyday experiences, such as leading sports teams, managing personal schedules, volunteering or academic achievements, to highlight transferable workplace skills. Practicing mock interviews and preparing specific stories from daily life allows students to clearly demonstrate leadership, resilience and time management to prospective employers. Nigeria: Reviewing the Mandate and Evaluating Ongoing Programs of the Directorate of Research and Statistics for 2027–2030

The Directorate of Research and Statistics (DRS) of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission is planning ahead for the 2027–2030 horizon. A strategic seminar for this purpose opened on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, in Zuma Rock, Niger State, Nigeria. This four-day meeting provides an opportunity for staff to review the mandate, evaluate ongoing programs, analyze institutional capacity, and identify strategic priorities as well as resource requirements for the Directorate. It also aims to forge a shared vision, complete with an operational roadmap and an action plan for the Directorate covering the 2027–2030 period. Beyond technical planning, the seminar seeks to build internal synergy, mobilize teams around shared goals, and optimize DRS support for the ECOWAS Commission. Through this approach, the DRS intends to contribute actively to revitalizing Community initiatives, deepening regional integration, and delivering tangible results for West African citizens. Several other key objectives will guide the proceedings, including reviewing the responsibilities and activities of each unit and DRS staff member, clarifying roles and performance expectations for everyone, and identifying opportunities to enhance collaboration with other Directorates within the ECOWAS Commission as well as development partners. Participants will also conduct a performance review. This involves evaluating achievements, identifying constraints, and drawing lessons from past programs, as well as examining budgetary challenges affecting program implementation. Internal synergy is equally emphasized, with communication, teamwork, and collaboration occupying a central place in the discussions. The same applies to strategic alignment—namely, harmonizing DRS actions with the strategic vision and priorities of the new management team of the ECOWAS Commission. This strategic vision and its priorities are structured around three core pillars: revitalizing action, deepening integration, and delivering concrete results for citizens. This seminar lays the groundwork for a more agile, well-equipped, and unified Directorate of Research and Statistics, ready to address the statistical and research challenges vital to the development of the West African region. According to the new Director of Research and Statistics at the ECOWAS Commission, Samson Bel-Aube Nougbodohoué, this meeting will set the stage for aligning the Directorate’s flagship activities with the strategic priorities of the regional organization’s new administration. He further placed special emphasis on actions to be undertaken in ECOWAS Member States in the fields of statistics and research. It should be noted that the Directorate of Research and Statistics is responsible for statistics, research, data management, monitoring, and analytical support. It holds a prominent position within the ECOWAS Commission by supporting the implementation, monitoring, and reporting of strategic priorities. It is also tasked with providing the necessary data, indicators, analytical products, and monitoring frameworks to measure progress toward the goals of ECOWAS “Vision 2050,” as well as the new strategic priorities of the Commission’s current management. Among the participants in this meeting is the Director of Strategic Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation at the ECOWAS Commission, Gbogboto Bundu Musa.
