Friday 14 August, 2026 A Llandudno church is hoping to turn one of the classic images of the British seaside into a world record. The knotted handkerchief was once a familiar sight at seaside resorts, worn on the head as an improvised sun hat. Now Holy Trinity Church is asking people to revive the look for a world record attempt on Saturday 22 August. The church will attempt to gather the largest number of people wearing knotted handkerchiefs on their heads at 3pm, during their Family Fun Day. The event will also raise money for a stained-glass window at Holy Trinity in memory of those who lost their lives in the Wormhout Massacre of 1940.
