Ethiopia: Food assistance reaches tens of thousands affected by conflict, El Niño in northern areas

OCHA says that more aid continues to arrive in northern Ethiopia. Food assistance is reaching tens of thousands of people affected by conflict and El Niño-related impacts across the northern regions. However, humanitarian needs continue to outpace the ongoing response, making additional resources and sustained access essential. In the Tigray region, humanitarian partners report several incidents of drone strikes impacting civilians and essential infrastructure. This includes a strike that hit a local NGO’s humanitarian warehouse on Wednesday. The extent of the damage and the loss of humanitarian supplies are still being assessed. Multiple drone strikes were also reported between 15 and 21 October in the eastern Amhara region, according to partners. Reports indicate that the strikes killed at least 15 civilians and injured several others, including children. Schools were also damaged. The UN reiterates its call to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure. Distributed by APO Group on behalf of Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
